Zhejiang University (ZJU), founded in 1897, is located in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Founded in 1897 as Qiushi Academy, Zhejiang University was renamed Zhejiang University in 1950 after the establishment of Qiushi College, Zhejiang Higher School, National Third Sun Yat-sen University, Zhejiang University of the Republic of China, and National Zhejiang University. In 1981, with the approval of the State Council, Zhejiang University became one of the first batch of institutions granting doctoral and masters degrees in China.
